Terry Furry is a California based, queer artist. His artwork is represented in private collections internationally, and has been featured in numerous magazines and blogs. His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His studio is located in Studios 11, an artist-run space in Oakland, California.
The Intimate Strangers series is about our culture of strangers. It’s about how we are even strangers to ourselves. It’s about all the people we encounter throughout our lives that will never be more than one-night strangers. It’s about loneliness, the anonymity and vulnerability, the fear of showing our inner selves and the courage it takes when we do. How it’s easier to take a quick pic of your hard cock in front of the bathroom mirror and post for thousands of people (more strangers) to see than to share even a moment of our hearts. There is a freedom attached to this as well. Intimate Strangers is also about the freedom associated within the contradiction.” I will never know you” and “you will never know me” while you’re …um… being intimate with each other.

The paintings from the Vulnerable Gods series further examines the mythological archetype and their pertinence in our digital era. I am exploring the virtual embodiment of mythological strength and infallibility and how it often conceals a reality of fragility, isolation and vulnerability.

A: Balaclava.Q gives LGBTQ artists a safe home to share our work with others without censorship or shame and gives us the opportunity to get to know other LBGTQ artists. Balaclava.Q allows us to be proud of ourselves and proud of our work.
