Artist Statement

.

I never made any image in hopes that it would be popular, I was looking for my soul, not pop art

.

Rene Capone (b. September 22, 1978) is an American artist who became well known for his figure drawings using whimsical and erotic themes; often used together.

.

Capone was born in Niskayuna, NY. He is of no relation mobster Al Capone.

.

Attended the Parsons School of Design in New York City. Upon completion in 2000, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he currently resides in Oakland.

.

Capone’s artworks is collected widely in the LGBT Community both here in the United States as well as internationally. Private collectors can be found in the Thailand, Sweden, England, France, Canada, Japan, and the Netherlands. 

.

The figures in Rene Capone’s work appear to be on a deeply personal quest for identity and their place in the world.
